Newport CC had a clean sweep, on the Monmouthshire Building Society Youth Cricket Shield Finals Day, winning all three finals. Chepstow CC competed well in each match but were not quite good enough to out-perform their opponents.  The Day was blessed with beautiful weather and tributes were paid to the Chepstow members who organised everything perfectly with less than 48 hours notice, following the weather-enforced change of venue.  Full details of the matches should appear on the Shield 2014 page later in the week.

Newport CC add these titles to the UK Under 13 and Under 15 Lady Taverners titles their girls won last month.

Over the last month the fine weather has seen plenty of cricket being played.  Keep up to date with how the Monmouthshire Building Society League and Shield competitions are progressing by clicking the buttons above.  The Gwent Young Cricketers teams are also making up for lost time with twelve victories so far, including four out of eleven against the English counties (who are equivalent to Wales) and five out of six against the other Welsh Regions.  Congratulations also goes to Alex Horton who has scored his second ton for the U10s.

Alex Horton

Although the weather hasn't been the best for the start of the season a look at the League and Shield pages on the website shows there have been quite a few matches played already.  We have also played ten county matches and have our first centurion of the season.  Alex Horton hit an excellent 110 not out in the U10 match against Berkshire.
