NEWS 2012

5th October 2012

The curtain is finally brought down on an eventful season with the Monnmouthshire Building Society Youth Cricket League Presentation Evening next Wednesday (Oct 10th).  Players from all the League's winners and runners-up teams will receive team trophies and individual awards.  Full details of the evening have been sent to club youth organisers.

21st September 2012

Congratulations to two of our own who joined Jim Allenby as award winners at yesterday's Glamorgan Cricket Player of the Year Awards Lunch.  Huw Waters was voted Championship Player of the Year and John Glover became Young Player of the Year.

Huw returned the best first-class bowling figures for Glamorgan in 2012 (7-53), was second highest wicket-taker (39) and had the third lowest average (20.46).  Remarkably, he also topped the batting averages with 55 courtesy of twelve not outs in fourteen innings!  He also finished sixteenth in the bowling, and eighth in the batting, first class averages.  John, meanwhile, played in seven matches and picked up a creditable 19 wickets at 30.78 runs as well as scoring his maiden first-class half-century.

Mark Wallace's first season as captain was not a happy one as far as the team's results were concerned.  However, he still averaged 40.78 with the bat, made the most centuries (3) and had 46 dismissals behind the stumps.  He has been justly rewarded for his service to the Club with a Benefit Year in 2013.  Unfortunately, Will Bragg's season didn't live up to last year's as he struggled, like so many of his colleagues, to score runs regularly although he did have a top score of 92.

Congratulations to the Under 13 Gwent Girls Squad who have been announced as winners of the Wales National League.  Press here for full details of their successful season.  The U15 Gwent Girls were third in their league despite all still being Under 14.

20th September 2012

The season was finally brought to an end with the U15 Wales National Championship Final.  Unfortunately, the Gwent boys couldn't emulate their Under 11 counterparts and lost to Cardiff & Vale in an exciting match. Press here for full details.

4th September 2012

Congratulations to the girls of Newport CC who have become the Wales Lady Taverners' U13 Champions.

15th August 2012

Congratulations to Huw Waters and John Glover who have both signed new deals with Glamorgan CCC.  They have both performed very well for the county this season after overcoming injury and illness pre-season.

It's also great to see Cameron Herring has been awarded a three-year contract with Gloucestershire.

31st July 2012

It's been another roller coaster of a month with the weather but a look at the website will show that a surprising number of matches have been played.  Over 250 club matches have taken place in the League and Shield Competition while our Boys' and Girl's County teams have played some 40 matches. There are still four weeks left of the season in the League and the Shield Finals to look forward to on September 2nd.  Meanwhile, some of our county squads are entering the knockout stages of the National Championships.

30th July 2012

Congratulations to the boys and girls of Newport CC.  Their U11 Girls Team is the 2012 Lady Taverner's Welsh Champions and they went on to become runners-up in the UK Midland Regional Finals.  Meanwhile, the U15s Boys team flew the flag for Wales in the ECB U15 National Club Championship.  They reached the last eight in the competition finally bowing out to Bath CC in the South West & Wales Regional Final.

17th June 2012

With the return of the rains we have, once again, had little club youth cricket.; so far this season only one-third of scheduled League matches have been played.  However, we still have eleven weeks of the season where we can make up for lost time as postponed games can be rearranged.  Conversely, we have actually managed to play two-thirds of our Gwent Young Cricketers matches.  Special mention must be made of our U14 squad who have one three out of four of their friendlies against strong English Counties.  The U11 squad have also won three from four including a record-breaking victory against Mid Glamorgan.  For details of all our county squads click Here for boys and Here for girls.

27th May 2012

After two weeks with no youth league cricket, the clubs have been making up for lost time.  The current Monmouthshire Youth Cricket League tables are now on the website and will be updated weekly.  The Shield competition is also underway.  For full details of both press the League 2012 and Shield 2012 buttons above.

Twelve county matches have also been played and only two rained off so far.  Here press the County Boys and County Girls buttons.

27th May 2012

It's good to see John Glover fit and well and playing for the Glamorgan 1st XI and he celebrated by taking took seven wickets in the match.  Meanwhile, Will Bragg top-scored with 73.

The new Cricket Wales website is now up and running.  Check it out by pressing the Cricket Wales button at the top of the page.

8th May 2012

The continued poor weather has meant a delayed start to our youth cricket season with all League, Shield and County games called off so far.  However, it's great to report that Huw Waters tops the LV= County Championship Averages (for both divisions), after five games, with 23 wickets at an average of 11.04.

26th April 2012

Forget this terrible weather the cricket season is upon us and we'll soon be enjoying some warm sunny weather.  Well we cricketers are born optimists - we have to be living in this country!  Anyway, the Monmouthshire Building Society Youth League and Shield Competitions start this Sunday and there have been a number of changes to how the League is organised and the matches played.  We hope they find favour with our players and spectators.  For full details of the League Tables, Shield Draw and changes to Rules and Conditions press the League and Shield buttons at the top left of this page.

Our professional colleagues have been playing for a month now and Glamorgan have already played three games.  They haven't been doing too well  as a team but at least one former Gwent Young Cricketer has got off to a good start.

Huw Waters has taken 15 wickets @ 11.60 in his two games including a career best 7 for 53.  Those of you who were at last year's League Presentation Evening may remember he missed most of last year with a serious injury and has spent all winter building his strength up.  It's great to see this has paid off and we wish him a successful season.

Also at the Evening was John Glover who had a successful end to the season and was looking forward to cementing a place in the side this year.  Unfortunately, he contracted an illness pre-season and has not been able to play so far.  We wish him a speedy a recovery.
