Cardiff & Vale

124 for 9

120 for 8 Cardiff & Vale

won by 1 wicket

Gwent were put in to bat and lost wickets at regular intervals. However, a solid batting performance from Georgia Parfitt, who batted throughout the innings for 25 not out, enabled Gwent to use all their allocated overs and set a challenging target of 120 for 8.

In reply Cardiff & Vale started briskly and were always ahead of the required run rate, due mainly to E. Hopkins (30) and N. Davies (39). At one stage they were 104 for 3 and looked to be coasting to an easy victory but, after Nicole Reid bowled top scorer N. Hopkins, the game changed dramatically. Gwent took a further 3 wickets for the addition of only 12 runs and the result was less certain.  When the scores were tied with Cardiff & Vale on 120 for 7, Gwent never gave up and with Laura Dixon and Izzy Berry bowled several maiden overs, in which time 2 further wickets fell, before Cardiff finally hit the winning runs with their last pair at the crease.

An exciting game and very good performance from a young Gwent side, all of whom are still eligible for this age-group next year.

Best Performances: Nicole Reid 3-8 and Georgia Parfitt 25no

Carmarthenshire

86 for 4

86 all out Carmarthenshire

won by 6 wkts

Gwent were put in to bat and were soon in trouble at 18 for 3.  Ella Reed (17) and Laura Dixon (17) led a recovery but Gwent were dismissed for 85, crucially five overs short of their allocated thirty-five.

In reply Carmarthenshire found runs just as difficult to score but did manage to keep wickets in hand. At 70 for 4 they appeared to have the game won but Gwent, as in their last game, never gave up. Tight bowling spells by Charlotte Tregaskes, 6 overs for 6 runs, Rose Evans, 4 overs for 4 runs, and Ella Reed, 3 overs for 8 runs, restricted the scoring rate but Carmarthen eventually scored the winning run with just one ball left in the match!

West Glamorgan

71 all out

141 for 5 Gwent

won by 70 runs

Gwent were put in to bat and openers Georgia Parfitt and Rose Evans batted steadily to see off the new ball attack and put on 61 for the first wicket, before Georgia was caught behind for 23. Ella Reed (33) then helped to accelerate the run-rate before Rose was dismissed for 36 with the score at 98 for 2. From such a good position Gwent failed to take advantage of their wickets in hand but still finished on a very good score of 141.

In reply West Glam were soon in trouble at 2 for 2 with both wickets falling to opening bowler Laura Dixon. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, the only resistance coming from Rachel Davies, who batted throughout the innings for an impressive 36 not out. The wickets were shared around with Christina Shaw taking two wickets.  West Glam were eventually bowled out in the 25th over.

Best Performances: Rose Evans 36, Ella Reed 33
