NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS SEMI FINAL

West Glamorgan

186 for 8

177 for 8

West Glamorgan

 won by 9 runs

Gwent won the toss and decided to bowl which looked a good decision with Robbie Clarke taking two wickets in his first over to leave West Glam 7 for 2.  However, Greg Thomas and Huw Evans built a partnership of 55 to take the score to 62 for 3. After Evans was dismissed Thomas continued to play very well until he was finally dismissed for a very composed 91 as West Glamorgan finished on 186-8.  Robbie Clarke and Sam Hope Bell were the pick of the bowlers taking three and two wickets respectively but the ground fielding was found wanting in places.

In reply, Gwent lost a wicket early on with only 8 on the scoreboard however Ryan Avery and Robbie Clarke combined to build a partnership of 76 to take the score to 84 before Clarke was out stumped. This brought Jordan Harris-Cupit to the crease and he continued with Avery to pick up runs.  However, the scoring rate had slowed leaving Gwent needing 81 off the last ten overs. Harris-Cupit was eventually  dismissed for 28, in a stand of 66 with Avery, and once Avery was dismissed for a hard-earned 77 Gwent’s chances faded and they ended up finishing 9 runs short in their quest for victory.

Best Performances: Ryan Avery 77, Robbie Clarke 3-28 & 30

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS GROUP MATCHES

Pembroke

133 for 5

215 for 4 Gwent won

by 82 runs

A second wicket stand of 135 between Ryan Avery and Robbie Clarke paved the way for Gwent's big score. Clarke was in excellent form with 15 boundaries in his 126 and he was well supported by Avery with 41.

Gwent's bowlers bowled a much better length than their opponents which ensured that Pembrokeshire were always behind the required run rate.  Aadam Hassan and Sam Hope-Bell were the pick of the bowlers with their combined 13 overs costing just 16 runs for a wicket apiece.  J Davies top-scored for Pembrokescoring with 55no.

Best Performances: Robbie Clarke 126, Ryan Avery 41
Cardiff & Vale

154 for 1

153 all out Cardiff & Vale

won by 9 wkts

Cardiff & Vale but Gwent in on a tricky wicket but despite six batters getting into double figures, Sam Hope-Bell was the top scorer with 25 runs.  However, they still posted a creditable total of 153.

Cardiff's batsmen took full advantage of some poor Gwent bowling and with only David Clarke bowling the correct line and length C Griffths (64no) and Patel (61) soon passed the required total comfortably.

Herefordshire

150 for 7

28 all out Herefordshire

 won by 122 runs

Gwent restricted Herefordshire to 150 although this masked the fact that Gwent gave away 44 bowling extras and six extra overs.  Only David Clarke, Matthew Hancock and Lewys Jones managed to hit a consistent line and length.  Lewys was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 23 in his seven overs.

What then followed can only be described as complete and utter carnage as Gwent were bowled out for a staggering 28 in seventeen overs.  Accepting the fact that the wicket did not play so well in the second innings, nobody showed the correct application to stay at the wicket and build an innings.

Best Performance: Lewys Jones 3 for 23

Millfield

153 for 6

149 all out Millfield won

by 4 wkts

This was a much improved batting display saw Gwent post a competitive target of 150 runs thanks mainly to a well constructed 66 by Sam Hope-Bell.

Gwent's bowling was also much improved with only 15 bowling extras conceded  during the Millfield innings.  Sam Hope-Bell and Lewys Jones took two wickets apiece but Millfield eventually reached their target in the thirty-seventh over.

Best Performance: Sam Hope-Bell 66
